The Research and Scholarship Group

Mission: To encourage and support research activities among our Members, fostering the development of evidence-based and evidence-informed practices in Sports Therapy. It provides funding and grants to support Members’ research projects, educational pursuits, and professional development. It also establishes a scholarship program to provide financial assistance to eligible Members pursuing specialised training or travel to enhance their sports therapy practice and facilitate the dissemination of research findings and best practices within the society and to the broader sport and exercise medicine and healthcare community.

Dr Christopher Holland

Dr Christopher Holland

Director & Lead

Christopher is a graduate Sports Therapist and Head of Department at the University of Worcester. He was the driving force behind the newly formed Research and Scholarship Task team and currently leads the group. Christopher’s research interests are diverse, covering areas including female athletes, chronic ankle instability, fall prevention and practitioner development. He hopes that the RaSTT can be pivotal in fostering a culture of research, knowledge exchange, and professional development within our esteemed society.

Kirsten Wing

Kirsten Wing

Kirsten is a Senior Lecturer and researcher at the University of Gloucestershire, with a strong passion for research-informed practice. Currently completing her PhD, Kirsten specialises in paediatrics, practitioner education, and trauma management. Her commitment to these fields is making a significant impact, and she is enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge and expertise with others.

Hollie Charles

Hollie Charles

Hollie is a graduate Sports Therapist from the University of Chichester and holds an MSc in Strength and Conditioning. After gaining valuable experience in professional and semi-professional football, Hollie transitioned to lecturing on the Sport and Exercise Therapy programme at Loughborough College. Now the subject area lead for the programme, Hollie is passionate about injury risk reduction and exercise therapy, making a significant impact in the field.

Dr Rachel Bevins

Dr Rachel Bevins

Rachel is a Lecturer in Sports Therapy at Coventry University. She completed her PhD in 2009 and worked for several years as a Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham predominantly in neurological rehabilitation. Rachel has experience of supervising MRes projects, as well as being a reviewer for numerous Academic Journals. She is also involved with elite para-sport, and is actively engaged in research in this area.

Dr Ashley Jones

Dr Ashley Jones

Ashley is a Senior Lecturer in the Rehabilitation Sciences subject group at Leeds Beckett University. He is an active researcher and leads on a Musculoskeletal Health and Rehabilitation Research Group. Ashley’s doctoral research focussed on injury surveillance and management strategies in team sports.
