Since that time the Society has developed further collaborative agreements with other Universities in the United Kingdom and is continuing to develop additional programmes. As the first university in the country to develop a BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy Degree we can ensure that you learn from highly motivated staff, outstanding custom built facilities and through innovative teaching methods. The aim of the BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy Degree is to broaden and deepen your understanding of Sports Therapy through the academic study of Sports Medicine and Sports Science. The BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy programme at University College Birmingham was launched in 2004. The School of Sport and Creative Services provides an innovative and progressive 3 year programme delivered by an expert lecturing team of Sports Therapists, Physiotherapists and Sports Scientists. Conveniently located in the centre of Birmingham, Sports Therapy at UCB is renowned for its spacious and fully equipped clinical resources, sports centre and performance lab. Our Sports Injury Clinic is open 5 days a week and is staffed by students and clinical supervisors.
Work placement opportunities are available as part of the programme and students are required to provide Sports Therapy at a series of sports events during their studies. Whilst providing a strong and evidence-based theoretical foundation, the course puts a strong emphasis on practical experience and various activities are undertaken to encourage the understanding of scientific principles and applications and the professional developments in Sports Therapy.
Spring 2008 saw the online launch of the Journal of Sports Therapy, hosted by UCB and is the first academic journal specifically for the Sports Therapy profession. The BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy programme at UCB is accredited by and leads to full membership of The Society of Sports Therapists.

With the national drive to improve health, and the increasing numbers of people participating in sport and exercise at all levels, there is an increased demand for appropriately trained practitioners to meet the needs of injured sports participants. This joint development between the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences and Carnegie Faculty, in collaboration with The Society of Sports Therapists, aims to produce Graduate Sports Therapists who are eligible and qualified to practise. The course will include modules focused on the underpinning anatomy, physiology, activity, fitness and practical therapy aspects of sport. There is particular emphasis on the evidence that informs therapeutic intervention and elements of practise based working will form an important part of this programme.

The BSc (Hons) Degree in Sport & Exercise Therapy at Coventry University will equip graduates with the knowledge and wide range of practical skills required for a career in Sports Therapy. Our course makes the best use of fully equipped Sports Science laboratories, practical teaching rooms, and a purpose built clinic, to provide the best possible learning environment for students. We have extensive practical and laboratory facilities, including a Sports Therapy Clinic housed in a purpose-built clinical skills lab, Sports Hall, Gymnasium, Fitness and Weights Suites, numerous laboratories and extensive laboratory equipment. The subject area is fortunate to have twice been in receipt of Science Research Infrastructure (SRIF) funding, which has supplemented the already well-developed laboratory facilities.

Sports Therapy is one of three specialisations within the four-year Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons) in Sports and Recreation Management. There has been a huge demand for such a profession in Hong Kong and this programme is the first of its kind in the country. The first two-years of the Degree are foundation study, with specialisation in the subsequent two-years. Our programme offers both sports injury related and business management modules to provide all-round knowledge necessary for the career development of our graduates. Our ‘learn and do’ approach encourages students to apply specialised knowledge and skills to real-world issues. This is further strengthened by our purpose-built laboratories and world-class research. If you have a burning desire to treat sporting injuries at a unique specialist sports campus, then the BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy at Hartpury University is the course for you. You will learn about injury prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation for a range of sports to ensure an effective and optimal return to play. You will develop key practice-based skills and relevant applied knowledge. Initially you will gain experience in a safe, supervised environment while later having the opportunity to develop this in other sporting settings. A sandwich year option is also available.

Located on a historic, small and friendly campus in Carmarthen, UWTSD offers the only accredited Sports Therapy Degree programme in Wales. At level 4 students are taught a wide range of soft tissue techniques including sports massage, soft tissue release, specific soft tissue mobilisations, myofascial release, trigger points and muscle energy techniques. Students also cover basic Pitchside First Aid and are introduced to the clinical assessment sports injuries. Throughout their first year students are encouraged to volunteer as Pitchside first aiders with our university sports teams and work in our free onsite sports massage clinic. At level 5, students complete their understanding of clinical assessment and making a diagnosis, are taught manual therapy techniques including joint mobilisations and also sports rehabilitation. At level 6, students are taught advanced soft tissue and joint techniques, sports trauma management and electrotherapy. Alongside their dissertation, students also complete 200 hours of clinical practice comprised of a minimum of 75 hours in our free onsite sports injury clinic, up to 75 hours with external placement providers and up to 50 hours observing other sports and health professionals including chiropractors, osteopaths, sports rehabilitators, sports physicians, orthopaedic surgeons, clinic managers and strength and conditioning coaches.

The BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy course at Bournemouth University will enable you to provide advice and treatment for the prevention and rehabilitation of sports injuries. The course, which is delivered within our Faculty of Health & Social Sciences, focuses on professional practice and, in addition to the in-house clinical hours, you’ll be able to undertake 250 hours of insured placements outside the university setting as well as having the option to do a year’s full-time placement in your third year.  Upon graduation you’ll be able to empower sports men, women and children to achieve optimal potential and performance.

Our course is split between theoretical and practical elements, and you’ll learn how to provide advice and treatment to manage the individual needs of a person within their sporting environment. This may involve designing and carrying out injury prevention programmes, providing immediate care of injuries and basic life support in a recreational, clinical, training and competitive environment. There will be opportunities to assess and manage sports injuries by providing specialist advice and treatments like manual therapy, electrotherapy and other musculoskeletal interventions as part of a rehabilitation programme.

The aim of the BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy course is to broaden and deepen your understanding of sports therapy through the academic study of sports medicine and sports science.

It utilises the principles of sport and exercise sciences incorporating physiological and pathological processes to prepare the participant for training, competition and, where applicable, work. The course and modules are underpinned by the latest research in sports therapy.

Through this programme, you will undertake work experience each year and have the opportunity to undertake a full year’s placement in the UK or overseas. This opportunity is offered by only a very small number of HEIs. In addition, from year 1 you will work in a clinical setting supported by our research active practitioner based Sports Therapists.

The University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Society of Sports Therapists. The University is working with the Society of Sports Therapists (SST) to gain SST Accreditation for this programme.

Career opportunities include: running your own Sports Therapy Clinic; working in professional sport as a Sports Therapist; working in private practice as a Sports Therapist in partnership with others or as a Sports Therapist in a Fitness setting

This new BSc (Hons) Sport Therapy and Rehabilitation programme starts in September 2016 and has been designed in partnership with the society to ensure students graduate with a professionally recognised degree and professional standing within sports therapy. The programme incorporates a sound scientific understanding of the musculoskeletal system and therapeutic practice. A key feature of the programme is the ‘hands-on’ development of skills, professional practice and real world learning that students will experience. This is fundamental to students gaining experience working with clients and being competent and ready to practice effectively. With links to internal sports clubs and local partners, there is an opportunity to gain experience with expert staff supervising who can provide the necessary support and guidance throughout the programme.

Accredited by the Society of Sports Therapists, our course covers the principles of rehabilitation techniques and exercise science, so you’ll graduate ready to work as a professional sports therapist.

You will be taught to work safely and ethically as a therapist in our specialist clinic space and sports science labs, accredited by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES). You’ll be learning to provide pitch-side first-aid, deal with injuries, deliver sport massage, deliver strength and conditioning training, and more.

Our Sport and Exercise therapy degree course will give you the skills to work with a range of individuals, using evidence-based practice to bring them back to optimal levels of fitness and performance.

You’re likely to find yourself working pitch-side, dealing with a range of emergencies, behind the scenes, helping athletes recover from injury and train for optimum performance. Sport & Exercise Therapy involves the prevention of injury and rehabilitation back to optimum levels of functional, occupational and sports specific fitness for a wide range of patients. The course uses the principles of sport and exercise sciences, and the study of health, injury, and disease, to prepare patients for training, competition, or work. Throughout the course you will develop the skills required to provide the immediate care of injuries and basic life support in a recreational, training & competitive environment. You will learn how to assess and treat musculoskeletal injuries, and, where appropriate, refer on for specialist advice and intervention. Working as part of a professional team in a real world environment, you will gain applied practical skills in sport and remedial massage, and plan and implement appropriate rehabilitation programmes.

Graduates of this course will be eligible for insured membership of the Society of Sport Therapists and will be able to:

BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Therapy at Lincoln provides an academic degree alongside a vocational qualification, offering students the chance to develop the skills needed to work within the sports therapy industry.
The course gives students the opportunity to apply sports science knowledge and principles to the assessment and treatment of injuries within a sporting context. As well as focusing on the theory and practice of sports therapy, students have the chance to develop their understanding of anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics, and health-related fitness.

The University Centre at Bishop Burton College near Beverley in East Yorkshire is offering a new BSc Hons degree in Sport and Exercise Therapy and Rehabilitation

Sports and Exercise Therapy is a strand of healthcare that specifically focuses on the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of patients back to optimal levels of occupational, functional and sports specific fitness.

Students at Bishop Burton will have the benefit of being able to work with members of the College’s elite academies in in Rugby, Football, Netball and Equine, with many competing at the highest level possible for their club, county and country.

They will also be able to take advantage of the College’s newly-opened Centre for Sport and Exercise Science, which offers facilities for the physiological testing of athletes, and provision of therapy and rehabilitation with the latest equipment.

The programme has been validated by the University of Lincoln and is accredited by The Society of Sports Therapists, ensuring that graduating students are eligible and qualified to practise.

It is aligned to vocational skills, knowledge and abilities that are mapped to the industry standards of proficiency. These industry-identified core competencies will be combined with an opportunity to access specialist sport & exercise therapy education and training, an academic underpinning, and transferable skills for the workplace.
