MSc Sports Therapy
As one of the first Universities in the country to develop the MSc Sports Therapy we can ensure that you learn from highly motivated staff, outstanding custom built facilities and through innovative teaching methods. This 12 month course is designed for Sports Science graduates to apply their knowledge to a therapy setting through learning clinical skills. This course focuses on giving you the ability to diagnose, treat and rehabilitate sports injuries or dysfunctions to become a competent post-graduate Sports Therapist. You will develop the ability to be analytical and critical through a variety of teaching and assessment methods.

We have outstanding custom-built facilities as well as a dedicated clinical coordinator and excellent external links, meaning there are outstanding placement opportunities available to our students which lead to success stories such as placements with our neighbours, Arsenal FC and Comic Relief and careers at Chelsea FC and London Irish.

MSc Sports & Exercise Therapy

MSc Sports & Exercise Therapy
Leeds Beckett University offer the MSc Sports Therapy course to students through full-time or part-time study.

Practising in this dynamic field of specialist sports care, you could find yourself working with professional athletes or have the opportunity to start your own sports therapy business. Our course offers you the chance to combine the theoretical knowledge required with hands-on practical experience gained in a real-life therapist environment.

You will build expertise in the assessment and treatment of injury and the management of rehabilitation, and you will develop further understanding of different aspects of research design. With access to some of the UK’s leading sports specialists and resources – from university sports teams to elite athletes – you will have the opportunity to provide therapy support on your placement, harnessing the experience and knowledge needed to be a successful sports therapist.

We offer a range of core modules, and if you study full-time, you’ll be able to pick from a selection of option modules as well. Our course links together the extensive expertise from a range of sport and health academics and is accredited by The Society of Sports Therapists.

MSc Sports Therapy

MSc Sports Therapy
As a Sports Therapist, you will require a unique skill set which serves to prevent, diagnose and rehabilitate sports-related injuries in the clinical or sporting environment.

Upon graduation from the MSc, the Sports Therapist is able to deliver:

– screening for injury prevention
– taping and strapping
– sports massage and other soft tissue manual therapies
– sports trauma management and pitch side first aid
– examination and assessment of injuries that lead to a diagnosis or onward referral
– treatment of the injury which may involve electrotherapy and manual therapy including joint mobilisations
– rehabilitation that returns a player to full sports participation and sports conditioning.

Sports Therapy relies heavily on an underpinning and awareness of Sport and Exercise Science disciplines such as physiology and biomechanics, which is why this MSc is open to all Sport and Exercise Science graduates.

Upon completion of the MSc, graduates will be eligible to apply for full membership of The Society of Sports Therapists.

MSci Courses

MSci Sports Therapy

MSci Sports Therapy
This dynamic 4-year integrated-Masters course develops graduates with professional clinical skills and musculoskeletal expertise specifically aimed to prepare them for employment in a Sport and Exercise environment working with injured athletes. You will study a combination of Sports Therapy and Sport Exercise Science modules, which will include acute sports trauma management, innovative examination and assessment techniques, therapeutic exercise prescription, injury prevention, return to or monitoring of sports specific fitness, manual therapy (including manipulative) techniques, electrotherapy, exercise physiology, psychology and biomechanics. The use of evidence and research to justify decision-making in professional practice will underpin all your learning strategies within this programme.

For the full duration of your final year of this programme you will undertake clinical practice at a professional sporting club or organisation for a complete season/performance cycle. The programme has excellent links with professional sporting clubs and organisations. This hands-on practical course is delivered in state-of-the-art facilities by internationally renowned research and clinically active staff. On completion of the programme you will be eligible for full membership of ‘The Society of Sports Therapists’.

MSci Sports Therapy
Sports Therapy at Worcester is about more than injury treatment and prevention. You’ll develop your skills and experience across a broad base of sports science disciplines, for a wide range of sports therapy careers. The course is accredited by The Society of Sports Therapists and as a course team we pride ourselves on our engagement with the Professional Body to ensure the course is continually at the forefront of Sports Therapy.

Throughout this four-year course you will have the opportunities to gain a variety of additional qualifications and skills ensuring that you are fully prepared for your future as a Graduate Sports Therapist. These skills and qualifications can be practised with autonomy, consolidating, and enhancing your confidence, under the experienced supervision and guidance from our highly experienced staff.
By the time you complete the MSci Sports Therapy you will be a polished and competent Graduate Sports Therapist, be it as the first responder to a trauma incident, taking a nervous patient through their first musculoskeletal assessment and treatment session or working with elite performers at the highest levels of sport.
