Using a high-profile rugby injury case as a focal point, the discussion will examine:
– The pressures faced by clinicians treating elite athletes

Injury Prevention in Grassroots Sports
When: Tuesday 25 February
Time: 17:00 – 18:00 GMT
Cost: Free
All Members and Student Members will shortly receive an email invite to this upcoming webinar ‘Injury Prevention in Grassroot Sport’ jointly hosted by The SST and Power Up To Play.
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) knee injuries are increasing in the UK, particularly in the teenage population. ACL injuries are devastating injuries for a young person with at least 12 months out of their sport while awaiting surgery then recovering from surgery. This has physical implications but also psychological and social ones which are particularly evident in young people. In addition, there are long term consequences with a significant increase in the risk of early osteoarthritis of the knee with all the associated individual and public health costs.
We want our nation to develop an active lifestyle as children and stay active through adulthood. We can help this objective through prevention of injuries.
Power Up To Play is a charity initiative endorsed by The SST. Their aim is to reduce ACL injuries in youth sport. They deliver this aim by supporting and educating grassroot coaches in high-risk sports to use an injury prevention warm-up. Performing this warm-up regularly can reduce teenage ACL injuries by over 50%.
Sports therapists are ideally placed to have a real impact in this area of injury prevention and we warmly invite you to join us at the webinar to find out more about this initiative and how you could help. All Members and Student Members are welcome to join. Check your email for the link to register.
