AIMS:
The Society of Sports Therapists and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Sports Medicine Clinic are pleased to offer the opportunity for one Member to spend time at the Clinic and experience life in a North American University Sport and Exercise Medicine Centre. The successful Member will have the opportunity to experience the day to day activities and spend time with the Orthopaedic Specialists, Physical Therapists, Athletic Trainers and Coaches; all of whom provide a highly respected and outstanding Sport and Exercise Medicine service under the direction of Dr Thomas Loughran. The programme will be hosted and coordinated by Liz Trinchere Brown and Bob Izzo, two highly respected Physiotherapists who work within the Sports Medicine Clinic.
The successful Member will also have the opportunity to work alongside the Athletic Trainers and experience the excitement of Collegiate sport in one of the top 10 Men’s Basketball Colleges in the USA.
THE AWARD:
The award will include return air tickets from the UK to Richmond, accommodation for the 19th – 26th October 2019, and travel insurance for the duration of the visit.
The award is open to Members of The Society of Sports Therapists. Applicants must also be current Members of The Society of Sports Therapists at the time of application and on the date that the award is made.
APPLICATIONS FOR THE AWARD:
Applications for the award should be made to The Society of Sports Therapists in the following manner:
- Applicants should produce a short video of no longer than 5 minutes, giving a brief overview of themselves and why they wish to go to VCU. They should also state why they think they are suitable for this opportunity and what benefits they feel it will give to both themselves and The Society of Sports Therapists.
- Videos should be forwarded to The Society of Sports Therapists electronically, along with confirmation of their name, address and Society of Sports Therapists membership number. The email address for videos to be sent to is: Scholarship@thesst.org
TIMETABLE FOR VCU AWARD:
- The closing date for applications is 4pm Friday 17th May 2019.
- After the closing date all applications will be reviewed and assessed by an independent panel of scrutineers. Their recommendation will then be considered and ratified by the Directors and Executive Committee of The Society of Sports Therapists.
- The winner will be notified during week commencing 10th June 2019 and confirmation detailed on The Society of Sports Therapists’ website during the same week.
- The winner will then be invited to return to the 2020 Annual General Meeting Seminar to give a brief presentation on their experience.
NB:
- Administrative and organisational support will be given to the successful Member by The Society of Sports Therapists.
- Officers and Directors of The Society of Sports Therapists are not eligible to apply for this award.
- Applicants must be willing to be interviewed, if selected, by Charles Whitney, PR agency for The Society of Sports Therapists, on selection and immediately following their trip. Applicants must also be willing to allow their interviews to be reported on The Society of Sports Therapists website and undertake any other PR activity advised by Charles Whitney.
- PLEASE NOTE: Applications will not be considered if any of the above procedures are not adhered to.
The Society of Sports Therapists has the right to withdraw the award and request a refund of any monies paid if the trip does not happen or arrangements are not finalised as detailed in the original application.
Duke University, North Carolina (Expired – 2019)
AIMS:
The Society of Sports Therapists and Duke University Sports Medicine Clinic are pleased to offer the opportunity for one Member to spend time at Duke Health and experience life in a world renowned North American University Sport and Exercise Medicine Centre. The successful Member will have the opportunity to experience the day to day activities and spend time with the Physical Therapists, Orthopaedic Specialists, Athletic Trainers and Coaches; all of whom provide a highly respected and outstanding Sport and Exercise Medicine service in one of the United States most successful sporting Universities. The programme will be hosted and coordinated by Michael Messer and Bob Bruzga, two highly respected Physiotherapists within the Physical Therapy Sports Medicine Department at the Centre for Living at the University.
The successful Member will also have the opportunity to experience the excitement of Collegiate sport at the highest level.
THE AWARD:
The award will include return air tickets from the UK to Durham, North Carolina, accommodation for the 11th – 19th October 2019, and travel insurance for the duration of the visit.
The award is open to all Members of The Society of Sports Therapists. Applicants must also be current Members of the Society at the time of application and on the date that the award is made.
