Student Travelling Scholarships Criteria

The Opportunity

For one (1) graduating BSc (Hons), MSc or MSci student from a University with which The Society of Sports Therapists has a collaborative agreement, to spend 5 weeks hosted by the School of Kinesiology and Health Science, Athletic Therapy Certificate Programme, York University, Canada.

For the Graduate selected to work alongside, and with staff within the Gorman/Shore Athletic Therapy Clinic, and experience a pre-season training camp environment with University teams along with match preparation and coverage.

To participate in professional, academic and cultural experiences that will enhance the knowledge, skills and expertise already gained from their Sports Therapy Degree Programme.

The Offer

• Return Air Tickets from the UK to Canada – Provided by The Society of Sports Therapists.
• Travel Insurance for the duration of the visit – Provided by The Society of Sports Therapists.
• A financial stipend towards expenses– (Final amount to be confirmed) – provided by The Society of Sports Therapists.
• Accommodation in the Toronto area for the duration of the visit.
• Access to the recreational facilities of York University, as appropriate to students/visiting staff.

The Selection Criteria

• Applicants should be likely to achieve a 1^st Class Honours classification at BSc (Hons) level or successfully complete an MSc or MSci in Sports Therapy. This will need to be verified and confirmed, in writing, by a senior tutor or sports therapy course leader.
• Applicants must be student/members of The Society of Sports Therapists at the time of application and, if selected, a member at the time of travelling to Canada.
• Applicants must be available to travel on 6^th August 2019 and be able to remain in Canada until the 8^th September 2019.
• Applicants must be willing to be interviewed, if selected, by Charles Whitney, PR Agency for The Society of Sports Therapists, prior to the trip.  They must also be prepared to furnish two (2) written reports for PR usage.  One (1) to be sent on the 24^th August and the other to be submitted on returning to the UK.  Both reports to be submitted to Charles Whitney PR, who will advise and assist accordingly.
• Applicants must be willing to attend the 2020 Annual General Meeting Seminar to give a brief presentation on their experience.
• Applicants must be willing to participate in the programme fully and when and where required, talk on Sports Therapy and their own experience within it (practically and academically) to students, staff and athletes at York University.

• Applicants should produce a short video of no longer than 3 minutes giving their reasons for the application, the aims if selected and the benefits that this opportunity would bring both personally and to The Society of Sports Therapists.  Additionally, the applicant should send details of their name, address, contact telephone numbers and e-mail address, with their video.

• The closing date for applications will be 4pm Friday 31^st May 2019
• Short-listed applicants will be required to attend an interview in Luton on Monday 1^st July 2019, the time and venue to be confirmed. Interviews will be conducted by a panel appointed by The Society of Sports Therapists and include members of the Athletic Therapy Certificate Programme and Gorman/Shore therapy staff from York University.
• Applications will not be considered if the application procedures are not adhered to.

The Opportunity

To serve a period of 5 weeks as an ‘intern’ at St. Clair College and associated Athletic Therapy areas, in Canada, between the 23^rd August – 27^th September 2019.

1)   For one (1) graduating student from a University with which The Society of Sports Therapists has a collaborative agreement, to spend 5 weeks hosted by the Athletic Therapy Clinic at the St. Clair College, Canada.

2)   To work alongside and with Kim Stroesser and the staff within the Athletic Therapy Clinic as well as accompanying College teams in training and match preparation.

3)   To visit other Centres and Clinics along with having the opportunity to meet a group of Sport, Exercise and Therapy specialists within the Windsor area.

4)   To participate in professional, academic and cultural experiences that will enhance the knowledge, skills and expertise already gained from their BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy Degree.

• Access to the recreational facilities of St. Clair College, as appropriate to students/visiting staff.
• The successful candidate will be mentored by Kim Stroesser, who is also responsible for co-ordinating the programme, and accommodated at, or within the locality of St. Clair College.
